I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but thought some out there would want to know if they knew this person...
"Comet Kid", Dustin Matthews, who thru hiked the trail in 1996, passed away on March 11. He was only 31.

His family is asking that "In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy"
I never had the pleasure of meeting Comet Kid myself, but he was a good friend of a good friend of mine. My friend asks that anyone out on the trail take a moment of silence in his memory.
