Anyone out there planning for 2008 yet? I know im counting down the days. Personally Im going to be a SOBO and looking for someone to share the first few weeks through the maine wilderness with. Although after that I plan to split and hike fairly alone the rest of the way.

Been looking for the "class of 2008" .....guess this is it. Planning for
March 1st of 2008. Not running away from anything, not running to anything....Just want to hike the AT in one continuous journey. The reasons are things like the adventure, completing it, enjoying the country, and other reasons like that. Nothing deep or provocative. No insperational, deep motivation. I just feel like hiking. Looking forward to it...

Yep, planning a March 2008 start date myself... NOBO though like the rest of the herd :D

I guess I'll be able to enjoy our RPH Work Weekend/Hiker Feed as a guest for a change...LOL

April 6 2008 is the plan for now.

Only don't expect to see me much on the AT for the first 235 miles. I will be stealth hiking and camping to avoid any crowds.

April 1, 2008. I've been dreaming about this trip for 8 years. 19 months and counting. It's great to start finding out hikers that will be out there at the same time.

To do a thru hike has been a goal of mine for some time. When I stumbled on this site last fall, I found such a resource that enabled me to learn from a very experienced community. I have camped since I was little, remembering camping on the Witchita and at Corpus Christi when my Dad was stationed at Ft Sam Houston, to leading Cubs, Webelos, and Scouts for years. Whether it's a NOBO, SOBO or flip flop I plan to climb a few more obstacles and join the crowd in '08. Amen.

Rock, I understand stealth camping, but how do you stealth hike and stay on the trail?

235 miles ??? - I thought the BMT was 287 miles long

I plan NOBO.

You can go stealth that far by starting at Springer but then getting on the BMT and meeting back up at Davenport Gap. Well actually there is a few times the two trails cross here and there, but you get my drift.

And you are right HOI, it is 287, but it comes back into the AT at mile 234.9 so anyone looking for me is not going to see me until I get to that point. :p

Mile 235 of the BMT, but crosses the AT @ mile marker 163 near Fontana Dam

Yes, but I'm not certain that construction is complete in all sections.

the alabama pinhoti is not far from me..but I understand that between the alabama pinhoti and the georgia pinhoti there is quite a gap..I had thought of doing the pinhoti to BMT to AT..but wasnt sure if you could do it.I know people have done the ECT..but I would like to get more info.I would love to go from keywest to katahdin:sun  :banana

I'm counting the days too. I would like to finish just before my 70th b'day. NOBO, early March 08 start. It's gonna be hard walking past my house up here in New Hampster. Though it would be kinda neat to Turn around on Katahdin and announce that I'm gonna walk home:D

Hey, last night I was sitting at the 4ID parking lot waiting for my Team Leader to get out of a meeting so we could start a night patrol. I looked up and there was a guy walking around the lake with a backpack and trekking poles. I wonder if he is getting ready for a 07 or 08 thru-hike.

It's a small world ain't it ;)

Wanna here something else cool. Right now I am at an MWR center on Camp Victory on a public computer. I started typing in the WhiteBlaze URL and the auto-complete started filling the URL for one of the pages on the site because someone that has been using this computer before me must be a WhiteBlazer. One was an image of a Barn in Tellico.

Cool! It is a small world. Somewhere around this FOB a WhiteBlazer is lurking.

My countdown has begun as well! I'll be going NOBO starting on Feb 29th. My only minor detail to work out is that I have to take my wife on a vacation before I leave. I'm thinking something like a long weekend somewhere but being the woman that she is I have a feeling that if it ain't at least a week someplace warm I'm gonna have problems! Guess I'm going have to really start putting $ away.

I am planning to start March 1 2008. I hiked in 2004 but had to stop due to knee injury in the Whites and now have had double knee replacements and am ready to go. I want to start over so I can hike it in one continuous time frame. I am anxious to go. See you there.
