Many congratulations to Steve Perry, who became the first person to complete a continuous winter hike over all the Munros – the UK's toughest hillwalking challenge – on March 31.

Steve, from Todmorden in West Yorkshire, was accompanied on his final hill, Ben Hope, by Lorraine McCall, TGO gear editor Chris Townsend, TGO deputy editor John Manning, and Steve's chum Graeme Burns, from East Kilbride.

Chris and Lorraine have an idea what Steve's gone through over the last few months – Chris was first, in 1996, to hike continuously over all the Munros and Tops, while Lorraine last year became the first woman to do a completely self-powered continuous Munro round, using sea kayaks when the going underfoot got too damp.

Steve admitted he was "knackered" and relieved that walk had come to a successful end. He hopes to have raised more than £3000 for Cancer Research during his walk.

A "winter" thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail is still up for grabs! Dec 21 to March 21, be the 1st!

I was under the impression that Icebound has already done a winter thru.
