Some people in the forums have been talking about using spice-tin cans for stoves. Here one that someone sent me that works really well: http://www.freewebs.com/jasonklass/larrysspicetinstove.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/jasonklass/larrysspicetinstove.htm)

Does the lid screw on or push on? If it is a screw on you could bring two lids on that would let you save any unburned fuel. You could apply a silicone bead on the inside to keep it from leaking. You could even bring different lids with different burner patterns. Just some thoughts. Thanks for the post.

Thanks. On this tin it just pulls on and off though the company sells ones that screw on. They're more expensive.

If it just pulls on and off, be very careful that over time it doesn't become looser and blow off under the pressure of the burn. I'm assuming that you take the lid on and off to refill it.

more variations on the "TIN CAN STOVE" (pepsi can/soda can, etc, etc)...
still has moveable/removeable parts that complicate the "SIMPLICITY" that was part of the original design....& that you can easily break or lose...

First ooff, no one is asking you to change to a different stove. The is the "homemade gear" forum where people who like to try out different designs can share ideas and contribute to the overall evolution of DIY backpacking. Merely because someone shares a new idea does not mean they're implying others should convert to it.

Secondly, the lid fits very tightly and would not come off in transit. I imagine it would be pretty difficult to lose unless someone is being very careless.

That's right, you take the lid off to fill it. Actually, the lid becomes tighter after the first burn when the metal expands. Larry suggested sanding it down a little to compensate for this. You don't want it too loose though or it won't stay pressurized.
