In the late 70s, was there a shelter south of Straton pond after crossing the Straton Arlington road? It was replaced by the new Straton Pond Shelter. Also, a shelter going north just down from the peak of Camel's Hump.

There used to be a shelter called "Webster Shelter" near the road crossing (Arlington - W. Wardsboro Rd) on the trail leading to Stratton Mountain. The LT used to go around Stratton Mt, so that shelter wasn't used much. There also used to be three shelters at Stratton Pond - Stratton View shelter, Vondell shelter and Bigelow shelter.

The Gorham Lodge was on the north side of Camels Hump, 0.7 miles down from the summit. I spent many nights in that cabin, one of our favorite places to go. Sadly, it was removed because it was slowly sliding down off the ledge it was built on, was getting a bit rickety and the foundation logs were all rotted out.

Thanks for your memory. I remember staying there a few times. Once a rainy wind night. The place had it's own special personality. And it did feel a bit precarious.

Good memory there Mark, considering almost 50 years gone by......
Are you still hiking these days? Or are you feeling a bit too precarious?

Hi JNI64. I've slowed down a lot since the Covid pandemic. The biggest problem is the knees. The wife tells me to go out on day hikes but that cant' compare to the 2 or 3 weeks at a time along the trail.

So your wife is right get out there and do as much as you can when you can. And keep taking that "focus factor " or whatever is your doing it's working!
