Years ago I found a material online that was marketed as better than Tyvek for ground cloths. It's white and wrinkly, but thinner, lighter and quieter than Tyvek. I have no idea what it is, but I'd love to get more for a different tent I need a footprint for. Any ideas? This was probably 10 years ago.

I think I found it- Tyvek 1443. Now to figure out where to buy it. Google found me this article and it must have been what I read before. I hope posting a link another forum is okay.... https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php/525-The-Definitive-Tyvek-Article-Part-1

It is widely known as 'kite cloth' on eBay. In Australia & Europe, it is often called Tyvek Gold, widely available on eBay, and yes, I love this stuff, about as flexible as a wet dish cloth.

Looks nice if it's as good as they say. I use the new roofing underlayment paper that's like tyvek but stronger and definitely water proof, also free in my case. It is not lighter and more flexible but not far off (from regular tyvek not this light stuff).

It's also available on Amazon.

Isn't that still Tyvek?

I use a large trash bag cut down the sides so it opens up lengthwise. It's waterproof, fairly puncture resistant, doesn't crinkle too loud, inexpensive. One bag works pretty well for a 1-person tent.

Now I use a 2-person tent (which really is just a roomy 1-person. couldn't imagine 2 people would be comfortable) so I welded two trash bags together. Total weight under 2oz.
