Everyone,
I am hiking the trail for the first time in a few weeks. How often will I be able to re-supply? How much food should I bring to start out? How much weight in water should I carry? Any experience you have to share, much appreciated.
PF
How often you resupply will depend on how fast you hike. In general in the South you should be able to resupply every 4-5 days. So unless you want to pass up some trips to town you wouldn't need to carry more food then that. Water should be plentyful on the trail so I would have a 1 liter hydration bladder and maybe a 16oz bottle.

Yeah, you don't give us much information.
How many miles a day do you plan to hike?
How much weight are you carrying?
HOw experienced are you at hiking all day long? on hills that may get steep.
I think most beginners tend to take too much of everything.
If it's been raining a lot, you don't need more than a 24 oz pepsi bottle although you might want to have a way to carry more back to your camp at night.
You can send yourself a package to Neels Gap which enables you to start with 3 or 4 days food (it's aprox 30 miles from Springer) It should'nt be a problem to get there in 3 days unless you are carrying a heavy pack and are old or crippled or something.
