I am headed to Spain in two weeks and having no luck finding a place to purchase fuel once I arrive in Barcelona. Is anyone aware of a place in Barcelona or could make a suggestion based on their experience with fuel and Europe.

Maybe not what you asked for...but it could help with fuel name translations:

Is there a particular type of fuel you are looking for?

You might want to post your question on this British site. Some of its members walk in Spain.

There is also a Spanish site here, if you or a friend can read the language:

I asssume you're looking for canister gas fuel, which is the standard there. Camping Gaz is by far the most common. You'll find both threaded and threadless resealable canisters. The MSR Superfly works with both types. (I'm not sure if you can still find the old Camping Gaz [Bluet] non-resealable canisters.) Camping Gaz is often sold in supermarkets and hardware stores, as well as outdoors shops.

You could use the MSR Wisperlite international that burns almost any liquid fuel--gaso, kero, diesel. All should be available in Europe.
