I have no plans this weekend, so I plan on doing an overnight hike somewhere along the trail not too far from my home. Since I will be by myself, I'll have to park my car, hike out, then hike back the next day. This will limit me to about 20 miles at MOST (not in the best of shape at the moment:rolleyes:)

I'm sick of hiking the same local trails all the time; any sections in PA or MD that would provide for a good weekend? Thanks to your suggestions.

That's a great stretch. The Cumberland Valley walk would be sweet in the springtime! The first 12 or so miles are FLAT, FLAT, FLAT.

LOL that's exactly the hike I just did LAST weekend. Put some pictures up on the site from it...it is a nice stroll, but again...too close to home; I want to start venturing a little further out.

DWG (http://www.nps.gov/dewa/)to Mohican Outdoor Center (http://www.mohicanoutdoorcenter.com/)and back.

I think that's about 22-25 miles - give or take.

You could hike to Annapolis Rocks -- there are great views and good campsites with a spring. It's near Hagerstown, MD, about 1.5-2 mi north of where the trail crosses I-70. You could find a road crossing 10 mi to the north and head south from there. You'd also pass by Black Rock, another view. This could help with finding parking: http://appalachiantrail.rohland.org/

Annapolis Rocks is BEAUTIFUL!! I say if Pine grove furnace isn't to close from PA-94 to Shippensburg road is a nice hike about 19 miles. Also PA to hawk mountain rd was a nice hike. about miles ~GB
