I havn't had the opportunity to try it so I guess I'll ask. Can you use alcohol in a SVEA123?

If it is the same idea as a Trangia then I would say yes. I have a Trangia and I burn heat and denatured alcohol in it.

Here is another thread on this http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14525

I used to have a Svea 123 stove. It's a classic pressurized white gas stove. I can't see how it would work with alcohol.

It looks like this, right?

I just followed your link, AT Troll.

That is not the same stove, a Svea 123 is White or Unlead gas stove only. This is a Svea Stove and spare parts site:

Why would you want to? Alcohol is more expensive and less efficient than white gas.

The answer is no. The Svea is an excellent white gas/unleaded gas stove. It doesn't burn alcohol.

You can buy things that are an ounce or two lighter. But nothing that is really better. Well, the Whisperlight and it's modern substitutes are considerably less noisy, and a bit easier to start, which fact has no impact on efficiency -- or on the user. Some shelter mates may object.

Yes, Whisperlight is a modern version of a Svea. But I still have my svea after 24 yrs great 2 person stove and pick up a Optimus 8R for baking or group packing. Yes, they both sound like a jet on afterburner but it keeps Yogi and Boo-boo away during mealtime.
