I thought I would announce my wedding to my whiteblaze friends. I got married to mary on April 17, 2006 on top of Max Patch Mt. The wind was powerful...it almost blew the Pastor and our witnesses down. We left trail magic at Max Patch road...then picked up the empty cooler the next day. There are tons of thru-hikers in that area right now.

On our honeymoon hike April 19-21 we met Stumpknocker, Minnesota Smith...Nira and a ton of other hikers. Here are a few pictures from our wedding and short honeymoon hike. We hope to hike more this summer.
Peace!

Only kidding. Great spot to get married if you're into that kind of commitment! :)

Forgot to add....Miss Janet was a super help with shuttles and just general niceness for our honeymoon hike. Thanks Miss Janet! You rock! I also saw Baltimore Jack at her hostel...but unfortunately didn't get a chance to talk with him. Maybe next time.

"May the road rise up to meet y'all may the wind be ever at y'alls back. May the sun shine warm upon y'alls face and the rain fall softly on y'alls fields. And until we meet again, May God hold y'all in the hollow of his hand."

The Missus and me was married atop Hook Mountain overlooking the Hudson River near Nyack, NY. I didn't think of it at the time, but we were standing on the Long Path (http://www.nynjtc.org/trails/longpath/)when we tied the knot. It sure beats getting married in a church - which we both did the first time with our Ex's. It'll be 17 years in August. The wife said all she was looking for was 5 good years. She tells me we're getting close.

Best of luck to ya.

CONGRATS to Shades of Blue! And here's wishing you and the blushing bride many happy miles on the Nuptial Trail. The NT is like the AT, only longer. LOL

Last Thanksgiving weekend was our 30th, and we spent it hiking over Max Patch. Did a 30-mile section for our 30th, from Standing Bear Farm hostel to Mtn Magnolia Inn in Hot Springs, NC. What a wife!!! I think I'll keep her.

P.S. The wind almost blew us off Max Patch too!

Hi Shades,

I'm just "surfing", looking forward to hiker hosting again this summer, and saw your post. Congrats to you and Mary; I still hope to meet you both one day. As for Rain Man, I teased him about hiking naked, but I think it was a bit too cold.

We've heard from a few of the 2005 hikers who stayed with us and it's great to know we actually make a difference in the life of hikers. We enjoy th experience so much and have met some really great people. And we still stay in touch with Rain Man's daughter Grass (2004) and I hope to see her again, too. She is the reason we became AT hiker hosts and how we met Rain Man; without them, you would not have found us in Bennington, VT. It's a good thing you came last year as there is no more bus service to Bennington.

As for wind, it has been wild around here--and muddy, too!
