I know everyone starts and hikes at different rates, but given the popular starting times for both NoBo's and SoBo's, where do the begin to pass eachother?

...where do they begin to pass each other?
Seems to be Monson, Maine.

I'm starting late enough that I think I could see some from the start.

I left Springer on March 29, 2003 and met my first southbounder in PA

We section hike for a week between mid Sept. to early Oct. and have run into more SOBO'ers in MA than anywhere else we have hiked (VT) during that time. That seems like the tail end. Last fall, same time frame, we ran into a SOBO'er in VT close to Hanover. Her name was Painfully Slow and she had to take 6 weeks off for a knee injury. It didn't appear that she was going to make it.

We day hike in CT and run into NOBO's typically between June and August, not to say there aren't any outside those time frames in CT.

I saw my first southbounders in Vermont in early July. That was in 2000. I started hiking March 7.

I met my first southbounder in VA, but he was a super early starter (had an odd schedule because he was German and had a limited time left on his visa). I'd say the bulk of southbounders I met from eastern PA to northern MA, with an aweful lot of them in CT.

My schedule was March 20th to September 20th.

Steve Longley saw about 75 nobos and 25 sobos by the end of June last year. A handful of both were toward the end of May.

On June 23, 2005, while hiking in the Whites, I ran into 3 Nobos and 1 Sobo. Both groups said they were leading their respective packs.

Slightly off topic, but I spent part of Sunday (4/23/2006) with Many Sleeps on Springer. He mentioned that he had a southbounder finsh on Friday and another on Saturday. Both had started in the fall. I would guess that these particular southbounders met the first northbounders a couple of months back, maybe in Virginia?

In '97, I saw my 1st southbounder near Cheoah Bald late March.

Seeing Rambunny off on March 2 2001, the Barefoot Sisters were spending their last night on the trail at the Hawk Mountain Shelter.

In 1999, I saw my first SOBOs at Morgan Stewart Shelter in NY in early August.

we left Maine on June 3rd, bumped in to our first handful of NOBO's around Monson, but these guys were moving, doing big miles. We began to see the big groups through Vermont and Mass, and saw the biggest packs in CT and NY. At the Greymor there must have been 15 NOBOS

I seemed to see most southbounders in MA and this would have been in July.
