Thought I'd let you all know that I now have THE Databook - Thru-Hiker Electronic Online Databook - up on a test server for your perusal.

WHAT IS 'THE DATABOOK' I hear you cry???? :-?

It is the beginnings of a development to create an online data book for Long Distance Trail Thru- & Section Hikers. It is a place where you control the amount of data you want to carry with you.

It can also be anything else you want from a Databook. While it is being developed I welcome ideas, thoughts and suggestions on how it should develop.

Find it at: www.hikerbox.net (http://www.hikerbox.net/)

Pretty slick.

Maybe add a link to www.atdist.com (http://www.atdist.com) on the home page as well.

Just noticed this was from 2006. Oops.

Never noticed it before now.

An online source of Trail information organized by mile marker is a fabulous resource.
I intended to do this with vehicular access, and I started my own project, until I
discovered Dave Rohland's website, which pretty much did it already.

The ultimate online resource would be something like the ATC interactive map, but
with mile markers, and switchable features (like the shelters and parking they do now).

This would probably cut into hard copy product sales, so an approach to the problem
like Amazon's approach to electronic books would be the answer. I'd love to have the
AT Guide in electronic format, not necessarily online, as long as I could load it onto my
iPad and use it ON the Trail. I am certain David is aware of this.

In the meantime, I just keep typing away and adding to my own spreadsheet.
The more I type in, the better I remember it!
