A solar powered charger for cell phones. I know you'd carry two but this would eliminate one of them. Works better than the Solio. And its 99 bucks to boot.

Don't sit. Fix it on the top of your pack.

Exactly what I was thinking. The thing seems efficient enough that you would never really have to worry about charging your phone or portable mp3 player.

Campmor offers a solar power charger that charges 4 AA batteries. It weighs about 4 ounces and costs $16.95. :sun

Wonder if the $16.95 Campmor charger could be modified to charge cell phones, MP3s, ect? I'm betting some of the great minds around here could make this happen.

The thing that is nice about the Soldius is it's efficiency. The design makes it use more of the available sunlight than standard solar cells. I wonder how good that Campmor one is.

I've run into more options. Brunton seems to make a bunch of different solar power panels in different forms and sizes. I particulary like the solar rolls. check the link out.

I have seen emergency cell phone power packs that use 2 AA batteries. You just plug it into the charging jack on the phone. This gives you the 3.3 volts that most phones use. I suspect that if you left it plugged in long enough, the AAs would recharge the cell phone battery. I have read that some hikers use the Campmor unit and attach to the top of their packs so that it recharges the batteries while you are on the move. I would prefer to have a recharger that uses a battery (AAs) common to most common electronic devices such as lights, radios, MP3 s, etc. Of course, this won't work if it is raining, cloudy, etc. Anyone out there able to come up with a candle powered cell phone?
