My buddy and I went to the Smokies this week. It rained a gully washer yesterday and my buddys Crazy Creek hammock filled with water. We determined his factory designed drip line system didnt do the job. We were wondering if a mere string off his wide hanging straps would be enough to divert the water. Has anyone else found this to be a problem for them? And how did they fix the problem?

Search the Yahoo hammockcamping archives - this exact issue came up about a month ago. A few solutions were discussed - beads of silicone, sliced up inner tubes, etc.

Besides breathability, that's another reason I wouldn't make a hammock from waterproof material. If it does happen to get wet, I'd rather it drip through instead of fill up like a tub!

Although that does open up some new possibilities for trail hygiene...
