He was hiking north out of Hot springs about 2 weeks ago.

I had the good fortune to meet Crutch during my first day on the AT at Sassafrass Shelter, May 29, 2005. He shared a lot of really helpful information with me. He was recovering from his ankle injury and hiking with "Bugbite". We exchanged a couple emails and photos earlier this year and I learned he made it as far as Pine Grove Furnace, PA during '05. I hope he's having better luck this year (vis a vis injuries). Glad to hear he's still pushing north. Top-notch guy.
Thanks for the comforting news. Its good to hear he is okay and hiking again.
