Is tenting permissible on or near Max Patch? If so, are there decent sites? I'll be coming from Standing Bear. Any info on the availability of water?

Folks camp on top in nice weather. If you head north on the AT there's another fairly flat plateau where people also camp. Once the trail drops into the oak trees there are some spots that are fairly level and somewhat sheltered from the wind. Nearest water is a spring about a quarter north of here.
That should read "a quarter MILE north of here."
