Will it be a long time before somebody attempts to break the new record?

If someone does, we'll just manually round up their time until it's the same as Squeaky's.

When Squeaky pulls this off, the record will stand for some time.

if he does break the record.. does he try to break his own record or is he done?
if he dosn't make it...does he try again or call it quits??

I have been sorta following Squeaky since he started the AT part of his journey last year. The way I read the posts, especially those made by Squeaky himself in the A.T. sub40 challenge thread, I don't think he sees himself so much attempting to break a record as a person who has taken on a personal challenge. As if he is doing this for Matt, not for the record books. If he were to finish in 40 days or more, regardless how much he might shorten the current record, (and not 39 or less) I believe he would consider himself as having failed his mission. The fact that he had set a new record would be, to Matt, irrelevant. Just my opinion.

I think the Swedish Bikini Backpacking team is going to try to break the record. Of course it won't be individual as they are a team and....what a team.....

Fiddler you have hit the nail on the head. 40 days and a second would be a failure in my book. i am not out to set a record, i want to break 40 days.

That being the case, in the highly unlikely event that there come a point in the trip where come to the conclusion that 40 days is not going to happen (even you could get laid up for a week if you get hit by lightening :-) ), will you keep on walkng?

Or would you go home and move on to another challenge?

That`s a very good question...If for whatever reason Master Squeaky falls several days behind and it is obvious he won`t make 40 does he just quit?...Does nothing come from this other than to cover a certain distance in a specified time?..Heck there are many other places to set distance/time records (NY-LA) where the ONLY point is the time record
