I am trying to find a place to park a car 6-11 miles north of Daleville for a slack-pack hike. No overnight needed. Do you know if I can park along Salt Pnd Rd? for example, or someplace along Curry Gap? or Quarry Overlook? Thks. Juno

Salt Pond Rd. is gated at the Parkway, but according to the quidebook info it is possible to drive there via US 11 to VA 640 to VA711 and then to USFS 191, Salt Pond Rd. I don't know what shape this road might be in.

For OVERNIGHT parking along this section you have to register at Peaks of Otter. You should be fine at Quarry Overlook for just daytime use and this would be about 3/4 mi. from Curry Gap. Parking at the gate in Curry Gap is allowed, but whether you need a permit for day use I don't know. If you block the gate they will ticket or tow but there is plenty of room without doing that. It is about 1 easy mile to the AT along Salt Pond Rd. to the AT from the Gap.

The above is what I knew several years ago about the parking along this area; things may have changed. Give them a call. The only number I have is for the Lodge at Peaks 703-586-1081.
