Any complaints about the hiker parade at Trail Days this year? From my vantage point on the steps of the 1st Baptist Church it looked rather calm with the hikers and the townkids having a lot of fun with the water guns and baloons.

Everyone was still smiling and laughing near the end of the parade route so I'm assuming the hikers were OK. I didn't hear anything negative from the town folks afterward and I talked with several. Seems it went well.

Bodyguard (my son) is already devising elaborate plans for a CO2-powered water gun for next year.
From what I saw, everybody had a good time and enjoyed it.
Are your clothes dry yet Crutch?:D
...and you were on the porch steps because?????????

We did have an incident at our house. We were sitting on our front porch
and not participating in the water fun at all. Some hikers saw a hiker on our porch they knew and then started throwing water ballons at the hiker on our porch who was not involved at all. One hiker threw a ballon and hit one of our windows with a lot of force and as I stood up to tell them to stop more were just about to start throwing at our house also. They did stop and move on. No damage done but its important that hikers in the parade learn that if people are sitting on their porch and not participating in the water fun, don't start wetting. One local who is loved by hikers even went so far as to put yellow tape across her porch and did not allow anyone to sit on her porch. We will not be sitting on our porch next year or allowing anyone else to do so. Hikers really should stay in the parade route/street and not run up into peoples yards. But all in all, much more mellow than the 2005 parade from my viewpoint.

i thought the the parade was too calm
It was perfect! I even managed to stay dry by walking in the middle of the 05ers. Those with the balloons and waterguns were mostly on the outside. I wore my red hat and waved a queenly wave at the locals.

What parade? All I saw was a steady parade of beers at Dot's.
All I know......is that next year.....I'm bringing more ammo.
Dot's......yeah, I remember Dot's. DO they still have any beer left?
And A Mighty Fine Parade Itwas Indeed!
I slept through the parade
you hikers pushed me into my 20 gallon bucket and then tipped it over on me...next year we TT'ers will have a better defense. We thought we had the upper hand..but when 30+ years of thru hikers attack a group of 8......it's not pretty...funny as hell...but not pretty.
Blissful

It wasn't real fun when someone scooped up dirty road water with tar and mud in it and tossed it on my hubby.
Hope everyone sticks to cleaner water.
Other than that sad episode, it was great.
