Hello All,
I just completed my first section hike from Amicalola to Neels Gap a couple
of weeks ago. And I'm already planning my next section.
I want to start at Neels Gap (obviously) and hike 3 days/2 nights North.
Where would a good stopping point be? I was dropped off and picked
up last time by the good folks at Hiker Hostel. I'm guessing I will set up
something similar unless someone has a better suggestion.
I will probably be hiking alone and therefore will cover about 15 miles
easily per day.
Thanks for the help.
Allen

With that time frame in mind I would make it Hiawassee.

You can park at the trail head just above Neels Gap (Byron Reese Trail) and hike up to the AT and then northbound. The hostel folks could come and get you and bring you back down for your car. Otherwise you could park at the hostel and have them take you to the trail crossing and then have them bring you back to the hostel from Hiawassee.

I concur; Dicks Creek Gap/Hiawassee in an easy 3 days. I did two 18-mile days from Neels Gap, so it's quite doable in 3.

Is there a road crossing at Dick Creek Gap?

Is there a road crossing at Dick Creek Gap?
=================================
Yep ...US Hwy 76. 11 miles left to Hiawasse but it's a highly travelled road and a relatively easy hitch.

Here's a link to a hostel/shuttle that is by all accounts excellent. Cloud 9 cabins in Hiawassee. Very close to Dick's Creek.

Also having just finished Amicalola to Neels, next year I'm doing Neel's to Dick's Creek. I'll most probably stay the night at Cloud9 in Hiawassee, all of 1.5 M from Dick's Creek, leave my car there and get a shuttle to Neel's from Hiawassee, and finish the hike, staying another night at Cloud9. I was there a week ago and it ROCKS! I prefer to hike towards my car for some reason when section hiking.

I prefer to hike towards my car for some reason when section hiking.Me also. There are just too many things that can go wrong trying to arrange for a shuttle pick-up at the end of your hike. I'd rather sponge myself off, change into a clean set of clothes, and drive to the nearest pub.
