I am a bit confused over the various tent sealing techniques. I have a Six Moon Europa tent, and used some sealant that I happened to have called Kenyon SeamSealer 3, details of which can be found here:

http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=226&prrfnbr=12389

Upon reading the directions that came with the tent more carefully I find that they recommend Silnet, a product I was not familiar with. Is there a significant difference between the performance of these two products, and should I go back and seal the seams again with Silnet? In 2 tests in moderately wet weather the seams seem to be leak-proof, but I would hate to get on the trail and find out otherwise.

Thanks!

I always thought you had to use a Silicone base sealer (Silnet) on Silicone based fabrics like the stuff used on the Europa. Not sure why, but that is what I "heard" elsewhere.

Unfortunately, it's different. We used Silnet for all of our silnylon stuff. It is different than the sealseamer, which works with nylon. You need Silicone base for silicone stuff, seam sealer for nylon-based stuff. Good luck!

The Kenyon sealer is designed for use on Polyurethane coated fabrics. The Kenyon sealer will just peal off when dry.

Silicone coated fabrics require a silcone based sealer to work. The McNett SilNet sealer works fine or you can make your own.

I personally recommend you make your own sealer. It's cheaper, and goes on better and smoother than the commerical stuff. The results look better also. It doesn't have that shinny look of commerical sealers.

Instructions on how to make your own can be found at: http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/support/seam.asp
