Ok. I'm looking at getting this tarp (for use with a hammock):

http://www.outer-limits.com.au/pages/products/domes/hikerfly.html

it's an aussie company so it's kind of closer for me to order. :)

So, it is 360cm x 210cm or roughly 12x8ft. is this big enough?

It is made out of "UVTex3000" - I can't find any references as to what this fabric is like. Hopefully waterproof!

weight: .6 kg or 21.16oz or 1.3 pounds. Is this too heavy?

price- 29.95 AUD or 22.8 USD.

thoughts? is it worth checking out? Will I get burned if I buy it?

thanks!

12 ft is really long...my 10 ft is perfect, IMO.

But 1.3 pounds is extreme. My 8x10 is 13 oz. i don't see where the extra weight gets you anything except extra weight:D

TH, this may not be waterproof. UVT is a fabric treatment that helps avoid fading and other deterioration due to exposure to UV rays (sunlight). ex3000 is a type of cloth normally used in making sails for sail boats - it has a very high thread count and is both wind and water resistant, but is not waterproof unless coated with a waterproofing element.

ok. Sounds like hiker lite is not quite as lite as what other people would class as lite.

considering the tents are like 2kg, looks like homemade gear is the way to go.

Thanks guys.

Also thanks frolicking dinosaurs - that was a great informative answer about the nature of the fabric.
