Has anyone experienced any problems with leaving a vehicle at the AT access point at Chester Gap, VA (Off of 522)?

us 522 is a well-traveled road, and the parking area is right next to the road, so there is high visibility. you may also want to check the nearby 4h center, they allow hikers to leave cars, as long as you call first. you might also want to send a private message to "skyline" he'll be able to tell you more a/b the 4h center & what to do.

Just stumbled onto this by accident, thanx Goat.

You can access the 4-H Center from US522 via VA604--between Front Royal and the AT crossing of 522, on the right if heading away from FroRo.

If they still operate as in years past, you will need to go to the Center's office during weekday business hours (near top of property) and sign a form. They will then tell you where to park. Usually it's in a small lot next to the swimming pool, not far from a blue-blaze up to the AT.

No place is 100% safe including your own driveway, but I think the 4-H Center is the safest place to park in that general area.

Another option is the Chester Gap trailhead, next to Terrapin Station Hostel. Not to be confused with the US522 AT crossing and trailhead.

If you get the SNP North District map from PATC, you can see where each of these places are.
