I have just graduated from law school and I am currently studying for the BAR exam. To celebrate, my brother and I want to do a few days on the AT. We are thinking that 3 or so nights would be good, but neither of us have been before, though we both have camping\hiking experience. We are based in, and will start in, NC; approx. around the Western Carolina University region - does anyone have any advise on the region? Additionally, is there any thoughts on gear (in re packs for a 3 day, stoves, etc) Any thoughts or advice for a first timer would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks guys (and girls), FirsttimerAT

Davenport gap to Hot Springs would be my suggestion. Its about 40 miles. Davenport gap is easy to get to and Hot Springs is a cool little town. Enjoy!
