I'm curious to know if anyone has hiked in a skirt, if so, is there a particular brand that specializes in one specific one used for backcountry backpacking. My main concern is movement or lack of. I do a lot of hiking in the White mts. and there are believe it or not, quite a few of us that are interested in purchasing or perhaps making a skirt used for hiking. Any input would be greatly appreciated.:)
thanks kmac

I hike in a good old broom skirt. I just tuck some of it into my hip belt, and make a loincloth typ thing. I LOVE IT!!!!! Much nicer then hiking in pants. The only drawback about the broom skirt is that, even though it drys quick when wrong out.....it does hold water so I don't wear it in heavy rain

Mountain Hardwear, I think, makes a decent skirt. There's also one called a Macabi (www.macabiskirt.com (http://www.macabiskirt.com)) that looks great but is a little pricey. The women's forum of whiteblaze has a good discussion of skirts here (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10780).

I frequently hike in the Mountain Hardwear skirt, it's a good one and has a zippered pocket. :)

I especially like skirts in hot weather for the ventilation (don't bother with underwear) and in rain because it doesn't stick to my legs and chafe like wet shorts. Skirts=win

Another advantage to skirts: much easier to pee in the woods. Even standing. And without "exposure". Another disadvantage to broomstick skirt: not very durable in briars or shut-in trails. I've never purchased any specific brand or type of skirt. I like loose and long.
