BLAND, VA - Bland County's old jailhouse, where outlaws and ne'er-do-wells have spent their nights, could soon be a stopover for Appalachian Trail hikers.

It might work as long as there is someone who collects money and enforces rules everyday. Hikers don't do well on the honor system.

IMO Bland seriously needs a full-blown hostel or the equivalent (e.g., laundry available on premises or nearby). Of course, so does Troutdale, Troutville/220, and Waynesboro, for that matter.
