About 2 or 3 weeks ago I bought an EMS 5000 Summit Backpack (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_vertical.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84 5524442131361&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302848900&bmUID=1150950337477)
I haven't used it yet and now am possibly thinking about returning it and getting other gear that I will need and worring about a backpack later on. The only other dilemma is that EMS doesn't have to much stuff I am intrested in and I used a giftcard to buy the pack so I will only get store credit. Any suggestions?

You could use your store credit to purchase:
Footwear
Sleeping pad
Headlamp
Water purification
Wicking clothing
Trekking poles
etc...
OR
Return the pack and purchase a Vapor Trail. (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=8455 24442581767&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302855627&bmUID=1150969186475) Save 4 lbs 5 ozs and $75 (note 20% off sale going on now).
EMS has a new synthetic sleeping bag (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_vertical.jsp?STYLE_GROUP%3C%3East_i d=1408474396003143&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302848913&bmUID=1150974169731)that compresses much like a down bag. My colleague in DC owns it. I was amazed. Chech that out!

How will that hold up doing the Thru Hike? I am still new at all of this lol so bear with me :)

Let me change that. There prices are little higher then others and not as great of a selection. Lol its not that I am not intrested in anything they have but just want my dollar to stretch.

High capacity, too...
The selection at EMS varies from store to store. If the local store does not have what you are looking for, then consider ordering it. Look on their website.
