I have finally decided that I am going to get a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 for my thru hike starting March '07. (i'll say it was close with the Hubba but i think i like the idea of having that little bit wider area...and the weight is awsome)

One thing still worries me; I have seen on other posts that the mesh is not very strong. How concerened should I be about this?

I plan on having a footprint to protect the floor, but the body of the tent i'm worried about. If anyone knows anything about this, that would be great if you could help me out.

Thanks!

While I did not have mine out on the trail, I was concerned about the strength as well. Once I set it up inthe yard and played around with it, I was confident the mesh was going to be fine. The few people I know with an SL1 have likewise not had problems.

Not to take the thread too far aff track - but have you looked at tarptents? I sold my SL1 when I bought my first tarptent - at least give a look if you have not yet bought anything. Tarptent (http://www.tarptent.com/products.html) & Six Moon Designs (http://www.sixmoondesigns.com/shop/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=11&cat=Shelters)

I have an SL1 and the only problem I have with it is the head room. Trying to set up in the tent my head is in the mesh. This might not be a problem for you but if you haven't checked out the head room I'd look at that. I believe the Hubba is a little better as for as more head room.

If you are still interested, I have an SL1 (very heavily seam sealed, used 1 night) that I would be happy to sell.

I switched to the Brawny Tarptent. It is top notch. Roomy and easy to set up.

I have found the mesh to be strong in most tents...the negative thing is you barely touch them and they get tiny snags.
No holes though they just began looking ugly after awhile.

I had my new tent up less than 15 minutes and dang if it did not get 3 little snags when I was setting it up. It was very windy and touch against some tuffs of weeds...oh well its not considered new anymore and now I don't have to be extra careful :D

The Brawny is made by Dancing Light Gear (http://www.trailquest.net/store.html#tarps). But if you want one, act quickly - they are closing up shop on Sept. 25, 2006.
