While backpacking in Pennsylvania the past few weekends I have found that often one tree exceeds the diameter for my stock 42" HH tree huggers. I know that the strap only needs to go about halfway around the tree, but with rain and smooth bark, a 4 inch drop when getting in made me think. I went to EMS and bought some 1" webbing with the idea of making longer huggers. Rather than sew them I was going to tie an overhand knot loop. The webbing holds 1400 lbs but is awfully heavy.

I searched the forum and apparently some have reduced weight by carrying only one longer hugger. It's not that I'm too cheap to buy another set from HH, but at 30 cents a foot, an extension seems like an easy solution. OK, I'm kinda cheap...Has anyone made just an extension for one or both tree huggers?

Yes. A simple box stitch at the ends works fine.
