Has anyone met Baggens? This tiny lady ain't 90 lbs soaking wet and she packs about 35-40 lbs. I spied her yesterday hiking into Damascus all hunched down as I stood at the door by Dollar General. My eyes about popped out of my head as I said to the thru hiker next to me, "Man look at that kid! That pack is bigger than they are and has got to weigh at least as much or more than them! Ain't that crazy?" I was laughing about it until she got closer and then I realized she was a little old lady and he said "Oh, that's Baggens."

She introduced herself and later on I got to speak to her at the town park, she is really cool. She started from Springer in or around April and is going fairly slow so she don't know if she'll make it this year to the big K.

Anyhow I thought I would get this thread going on her to see if any of you have met her? She is suppose to drop in here later and I am going to get her signed up here and help her to get an email.....

Sounded like Willow at first but she is not really old and is way up the trail. She also has a great trail journal going on.

I did hit Springer Mountain on April 2 having never backpacked before. The beginning was slow, because I had to figure out how to walk carring a crazy load on my back.

The trail is awesome, and these last months I've discovered a new passiion hiking the AT. My advice to you is if you have a dream go ahead and do it, because I'm having a blast following my heart on the AT.

Hi Baggins,
We met on the trail, close to Greasy Creek. I was with Hanna and her dog. Glad to hear you're still out there. Have fun in Damascus. Happy Trails...

Anyone know if Baggens finished her thru last year?

I last saw Baggins at NOC last year but heard she skipped the Smokies because she didn't think she could go fast enough to hit the shelters. She was last in VA to my knowledge.

A few of us New Englanders are wondering if Baggins is doing the Northern half this year (2007) as she was thinking of last year--we wish to bestow Trail Magic!

:welcome to WB Whispers. Baggins was at Hard Core this year. She mentioned that she was heading North to finish (I don't recall where she needs to get back on the trail, though) after Hard Core. I saw her last year with her behemoth pack on 4/2/06. She is still out there.

Good Luck and Have Fun, Bagginshttp://www.freesmileys.org/emo/happy014.gif!!!!!!!

See you on the trail,

Hey Baggins, maybe I'll see you on the trail this year, although I won't be getting to Waynesboro till the 3rd week of June or so. Glad you're still out there and I was sorry to hear about what happened to you at T.D.'s. Take care and Happy Hiking.

I was very relieved to see her at TD's. I was worried for her when i I never heard from her, she's a survivor........

I actually met Baggens on the trail this past weekend. She was between Rockfish Gap and Calf Mountain Shelter. She was taking her time. She had stopped for a snack when we past her and then she rolled into the shelter the next morning for water.

Her spirits were great. :)

My brother & I meet Baggins & crossed HWY 50 w/her on 6-1-07. (HWY 50 is 5 miles North of Dick's Dome Shelter & just N of Sky Meadows State Park. She told us that she was on a 3 year Thru-hike plan. We admired her courage & determination. I'll try to post her pic in the next few days. Anyone seen her since?

We saw Baggens last Sunday, 7/22/07, about 2 miles north of the Washington Monument. She seemed tired but was still smiling.

I met Baggins. She was sick at the time. I was too. I had some kind of tick borne illness. It wasn't lime disease though. I wonder if she ended up getting to the doctor in Maryland.

According to this TJ entry Baggens has become a male! What's up with that? I saw her at Hardcore and TD and she was a she.

Coffee (aka Nate)'s TJ entries have a lot of typos - I consider this to just be more of the same - later on in the entry he corrects himself and refers to Baggens as "she"

Madame and I met a lady at Windsor Furnace on Oct. 21 who said her trail name was Bilbo Baggins. She looked an awful lot like the lady in the picture. She said she was heading north to DWG, but had hurt her ankle that morning and was planning to stay at Windsor Furnace for a day or so to give her ankle a chance to recuperate. She appeared to be low on food so we left her with some spare bagels. Later on I wanted to kick myself for not offering to fill her canteens. Sometimes I just don't think.
