Howdy

I have a HH Explorer Deluxe and am interested in making an underquilt, any advice or patterns out there?

OK, it won't be me, it will be my mom who has never seen a hammock, so lots of pictures.

2 places you could try, depending on what type of underquilt you want. For synthetic, try www.kickassquilts.com/MakeTOC.html (http://www.kickassquilts.com/MakeTOC.html) For down, try www.thru-hiker.com (http://www.thru-hiker.com) and then look under "The Workshop" and "Kits And Materials." Or, you could spare your mom the work and just buy one :banana I just bought and used a JRB Nest. I will post about it later under this thread www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15703 (http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15703) (You might want to check this thread out anyway to help you with your decision should you choose to buy one instead of forcing your mom into slave labor:sun )

I really looking to making one a while back. After I really start to price it out, in term of materials (esp. down), I decided it was a better investment to buy one. I think money wise I would of come out a little ahead, but I would have been way over in terms of weight, time, and quality.

Best of luck if you decide to make one, just do your research first.

There is nothing complicated about an underquilt. It is one of the easier projects to make if you decide to do it. On the other hand, Jacks'R'Better and Kickass have worked out the details and are users themselves. They are a good place to start. Of go to any of the hammock camping sites such as Just Jeff's or hammockcamping.com to see other experiments and reviews.
