I have a pepsi can stove, used maybe 100 times and I'm wondering what the normal time is between the lighting of the fuel in the "middle" and when the flames "kick in" through the outside punched holes.

It seems that it is taking longer and longer as the stove ages, is this normal?

Using only Denat. Alch. for fuel, and no food/drippings have gotte on the stove.

What is the lifespan of one of these stoves if properly taken care of?

Depends on the stove. How old is the alcohol? It is hygroscopic and picks up water over time, which may be your problem.

Have you poked a paper clip, etc., into the burner holes to make sure they're completely unobstructed? Maybe they've built up residue from the 100 burns w/ D.Alky. I'm not an expert and not sure if that would do the trick, but worth giving it a shot.

Will give that a try.

Alcohol is new, I use this stove almost daily. This one is about 6 months old.

Can anybody give me an idea of how long it takes theirs to light?

My homemade ones take 45 sec to a min, depending on conditions, for the stove to pressurize enough to push flames out the burner holes. Really, even the ones I've bought (Firefly, teensy one, and AntiGravityGear, no pot stand needed) all take 45 sec to a min to pressurize.

I also have a small piece of fiberglass insulation around the inside of the double wall,,,,, helps to pressurize in colder conditions.

I concur with the folks above - I give my antigravity stove a minute, then it's ready to go.
