apparently on the radio here in london, they said they droped british paras in to basra as the americans couldnt handle urban guirilla warfare.

odd but thats what was on the radio.

(note, the paras are the guys who are stationed in northern ireland and deal with all that urban conflict...)..

gotta love the war reporting. talk about a media frenzy!

No matter if you believe in this war or not (and I do not
believe this is the place to discuss that) I think we all
wish Sgt Rock a safe and speedy return.

Definately will be thinking of Rock...he is added to the long list of buddies I have over there now...I missed it by one year....actually 6 months since they froze my MOS 6 months after I got out.
Just a quick opinion...even if you don't support the war, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!! They protect everything we have, for lousy pay and not a whole lot of gratitude.
Dixie and Rock, best of luck...
as LW said.... SEMPER FI!!!!

I just want to thank everyone for thinking about SGT Rock during this time. It means alot to both of us I assure you.

I think I'm safe in telling you all that by the end of this weekend he will be on a plane with his equipment heading over there. I'll make sure he knows you are all thinking about him. I too hope and pray he returns safe and sound.

Simva, I'm positive he'll appreciate the sentiment.

Lone Wolf, AMEN!!! His troop was just named the best troop in the regiment for 2003. I have no doubts they are very ready for this mission.

Troll, I wish it were another week.

This war has been like nothing our world has ever experienced as far as the media coverage goes. I'm not so sure whether this is a good thing or not, but its the case regardless.

All the service members that are there or on their way have my thoughts and prayers..... as well as the families they leave behind.

Just want you to know that our family's thoughts and prayers are with you and Sgt. Rock and ALL the American Forces and their families serving in this war.

God I love this site, and the people on it. I'm pretty new here, but as everyone posted, you both are in our thoughts and prayers.
For that matter Simva, there's quite a few I'd like to meet and enjoy a cold one, or two....

I'll try my best to keep y'all posted on SGT Rock. Thanks again.

Howdy all!

I just finished packing my Ruck - Ray Jardaine would vommit at the weight LOL. My body armor and LCE make Batman's utility belt look like a minimalist's backpack. New MOPP suit packed away and all my hair is about gone. Desert uniforms are the style these days. BUT - in my CVC bag is a book: "Walking on the Happy Side of Misery" and a bunch of Snicker's Bars - I wonder if old Model T would say "he would have made a good Marine"

I'm probably getting in my last post or two for some time to come. Just know that the friends I've made here on WhiteBlaze and HikingHQ are special - I'm getting more e-mail than I can answer. Sorry if I don't answer.

I appreciate your support more than you might imagine. Keep on hiking and promoting the AT - keep the site rolling while I'm out.

I guess most of all, no matter how you feel about this war, please do what ever it takes on this side of the pond to make it end quickly. We all need to come home and the Iraqi's need to get their country back together and get on with their lives.

In case you want to mail me, my address is:

1SG Engman, Ernest B.
G Troop 2/2 ACR
Unit # 92378
APO AE 09322-2378

No pork, no porn, no religious stuff, no alcohol, and initially packages less than 13 ounces. Letters and AT PHOTOS appriciated more than you might imagine. My plan is to write my wife and have her post stuff from me, so if you write and I don't answer right away, that is because I only have so many envelopes, paper, and stamps - it isn't a snub.

I guess that about sums it up. When I get back, one of the top 10 things to do is figure out how to get to the very next Trail Days and thank all of you in person for keeping WhiteBlaze the best AT site on the net.

You didn't make 1SG without some smarts. Take care of yourself and good luck. Hurry home (via Baghdad, of course!). Thanks.

Knowing that our military has folks like Sgt. Rock in it makes me sleep a little easier at night. To Dixie, Rock, and anyone else with people involved in this Operation, know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many, including me and my family. Be safe, be strong and come home ready to hit the trails with a much lighter pack.

God bless you Sgt. Rock. I wish I were going with you, but since I cannot, you will be in my thoughts and prayers every day, as will all of our troops. I will be doing every thing I can to support you and everyone that is over there. See you soon!

Hope to see you back on the site soon, SGT!

Thanks everyone for your kind posts here. I just wanted to give a short update on SGT Rock for you.

He called me this morning from a layover in Spain. Apparently there have been some delays, but I'm guessing by now he's on the ground at whatever his destination was and preparing to start his mission. He sounded great! Much better than the tired man that I dropped off for this flight, so I'm guessing he got some sleep.

I too hope and pray that this is all over quickly and he's returned home to me safely.

Just wanted to pop in and bring this thread back up to the top and once again extend my best wishes to Dixie, Rock and everyone else that has friends and family representing our country in Iraq. The men and women over there have simply been amazing in dealing with some brutal conditions. It was great to see some of the celebrations in Baghdad today. Hopefully things will wind down quickly from here and everyone can start coming home as soon as possible.

Hmmmm..............What unit is Sgt Rock with???

Fox Cable news has shown a few scenes of GIs loading a flatbed truck with large metal cannisters filled with what appears to be used $100 bills. The commentator ascertained as there might be as much as $650,000,000 worth of our currency there. They even showed one of the GIs fanning a thick bundle of those greenbacks and I immediately wondered if Our Sgt. Rock was one of the soldiers that found the money. I sure hope so!!!!:D :D

Actually I believe he is in the 2d ACR from Fort Polk. As I understand it from watching the news, the 2d ACR is in Baghdad.

Please keep us updated on the Rock's whereabouts as you hear from him. Even though most of us have never personally met him, we have come to know him quite well through this site and the two predecessor sites which led to this one. So, we are all very interested in his whereabouts, and praying for his safe return home.

highway & all those interested.... I have been posting updates on SGT Rock's site as they come in. For those that are interested there are news updates and letters posted in the journal forum over at SGT Rock's Hiking HQ (http://www.hikinghq.net)

I did get a phone call from him yesterday again. He seems to be doing well, other than missing us and the mountains... lol. Still no word on when they will return.

Dixiecritter:

Just read SGT Rock's letters you so laboriously typed and posted for us at http://www.hikinghq.net/

That was some of the most interesting and entertaining reading I have done in some time and, I'm sure I am speaking for all who have read them, a deep, heartfelt, thank you for typing them and making them available to us.

A small box of five two-ounce packages of Barnie's coffee weighs just 12.8 ounces, just inside the 13 oz limit. Tell him to watch for it! I can't stand to see anyone doing without that essential, good morning, caffiene fix!:D :D
