A couple nights ago as I was laying in my hammock on a CCF pad I thought of an interesting idea - take a pair of pajamas and attach CCF pieces to the sides and back and sleep in this suit in the hammock instead of trying to stay on top of a CCF pad. Use a pillow for the head and either a small CCF pad for the feet or some socks with CCF attached or possibly down booties - I would probably use the small pad since I carry one anyways to sit on.

Well anyways I just thought I would share the idea - feel free to express your opinion

They would be hard to get into a stuff sack.

And very nonbreathable, so hard to adjust for temps.

Sew 'em up out of some green and black fabric and you can have loads of fun at 3 AM with some of the other campers nearby! :)

Bubble wrap....much easier to work with and pack...still not very compressible though.

As soon as I get sewing machine back from the shp and finish my gearskin, I am going to make a modified SPE. Instead of using just nylon, I am going to create the pockets using 1oz ripstop attached to an army surplus poncho liner...that way I get added insulation from the SPE, and have a multi-use light blanket.

What do you think of that idea?

Sounds like a great idea.

wrt stuff sack - I would just fold it up like I do currently with the CCF pad - it forms up the Gearskin

wrt to temp regulation - the CCF panels would only be on the back with a bit of wrapping to the sides so the front/top could be fully opened to vent any extra heat

wrt to SPE - I have tried one of these and found it was not for me - IMO the SPE was no significant improvement over just a pad and stuffing anything left over around the shoulders (clothes, rain gear, Gearskin, sit pad, whatever)
