I am heading out next Tuesday for the 100 Wilderness, I have a water proof breathable jacket and my old fishing pants waterproof but not breathable. What do you wear for pants when raining and would you recommend buying a new pair for better comfort.

Opinions on this subject go from no rain pants to full pauncho is best.
I prefer full backpackers ultra-lite pauncho.

Breathable pants are definitely more comfortable. But if the weather is warm enough, since your shoes and feet will get wet anyway, just wear shorts.

Yeah, shorts while walking, put the pants on when you get to camp or long rest.

I’ve hiked comfortably in 40 degree rain in shorts, wind breaker, and umbrella. As long as I was on the move I was plenty warm and mostly dry. I would slip on a pair of Gore-Tex running pants when I stopped for warmth. My minimum safety gear includes a fleece vest, wind breaker and waterproof pants.

Frogg Toggs are cheap, durable, weatherproof, and lightweight.
