I have a week long vacation coming up in Hilton Head. I already have some kayaking planned, but cant find much info on hiking... Are there any local, state or national parks in the area that would give me more than a mile loop?

Any other places of interest that I should see/do? I know the area is more of a tourist place now, but its free, so I cant complain!

Thanks for your input!

No hikes that I would rave about. Savannah is close enough and the historic district is about 1 square mile - lots of walking and interesting sights - worth a day trip if you are looking for things to do. Cumberland Island is about the closest hiking to see, but requires planning - almost 2 hours south of HH island and a ferry is involved.

If you are in the neighborhood (Savannah) send an email if you'd like a tour guide - or suggestions on local sites to see!

Right by the island is Pinckney Island NWR

14 miles of trails and great wildlife watching. You can easily spend a day there.

Agree it is a nice place - but I have found it a better place to kayak/canoe than hike.

pickney is pretty good, and there is a national wildlife refuge near savannah that has several loops of 2+ miles or so. there were lots of gators in the swamps when we hiked. also lots of waterfowl. i forget the name of it off hand, but i have a book at home on it. i know its in the "hiking SC" book. its right near the GA/SC line.

be sure to do some sea kayaking around HHI too, and you will find excellent photography.

This site has some (lots) of SC trails, and includes state/federal forests.
