Theres a trail maintained by the STA http://www.sauratowntrails.org/ that is part of the NC mountains to sea trail. Its approximately 20 miles long and thought about doing this as my first overnighter. I could probaly do it mountain to mountain in two days. Are there any other good ones around that area?

I didn't think any backcountry camping was allowed along that route. The STA website says to camp in 'designated campgrounds only' which I'm pretty sure means either of the state parks, but not the backcountry. I'd sure like to be wrong about this, but looking at their detailed trail description, I can't find any designated campsites.

Looks like a lot of horses use the trail.
Might want to bring a squirt/spray bottle and a brush.

Blackmath...I am in Charlotte also. Take a look at the Foothills Trail, it is a beautiful hike and is 76 miles so you can hike it all or do it at your own pace. Alot of waterfalls and some great trout fishing as well.

I agree with g8trh8tr. The Foothills trail is awesome.

Awesome I didnt know about this one. Are there any more cool ones around? And yeah I emailed the people and they said you cant camp out there anywhere but only in camping sites. So im looking for places where you can just camp anywhere you want.

the sauratown trail is.....interesting. the trail is bound by private lands for the majority of its length. i walked this stretch of the MST last year on my journey across north carolina. you can read my experience on the sauratown trail here (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=92063).

Haha reading that made me laugh and yet for some reason this is how I imagined it.

One thing I was wondering. If you park at Table Rock State Park can you park over night? How does that work?
