:banana I purchase this item to train with and it works better than expected.

I got the 40-lb vest at www.weightvest.com (http://www.weightvest.com)

I have a vest just like that.

Mine is for use in the pool for treading water.

I never thought about using it for hiking training.

Mine has 40 1lbs weights that fit into 40 pockets.

Try treadding water with 40 extra lbs!!

It's been a long day. So maybe I'm just missing something, but why would I want to spend $100-$200 on that when I've got my pack in the closet and 40lbs of gear that could go in it? :D speedy

You don't need to "train" for hiking.

Kinda like what Speedy said.

Sounds like overkill to me, you've got a pack, it sits on your back for hiking, use it (if you feel that training is best for you) :)

Always feel awkward when walking in suburbia with a pack. Got a WV after a profitable football season and started to use it on treadmill in the gym. Good workout I should do it more. Some of us are not the ''natural athlete'' that LW is and need to ''train'':-).

i havent hiked the trail yet but i've been readin a lot about it because i know no one that has went on the trail and no one thats actually interested on going... they day though that it helps you more instead of running on a treadmill, running on an inclined treadmill or using the stair exercise thing.. just my thoughts.

So wrong... check the IP addresses...

Appalachian Adventure Equipment does not carry such vests. As I said, mine was for using in the pool. The ballast can be removed and filled with water to make it near boyent, or you can fill it with styrefoam pellets or peanuts and make it float.
