No questions, just a statement..........
I've been off Trail for a month to give some plantar fasciitis in my right foot a little time to heal.
I've tried to stay busy stretching and walking about 3 to 8 miles a day while I've been home, but I have also found myself checking in on White Blaze 4 or 5 times a day.
It's been lots of fun, but it's been WAY too addicting.
It's not only been informative, but very entertaining too.......Thanks!!!!
I'm outa here.......going for a walk and won't be back anytime soon. :)

Phew! Smokestack and I thought he would never get back on the trail. We have been out doing the short walks with him then pigging out as if we were doing big miles at all-you-can-eat places. I am glad to see that our web site has prospered.
I do have some bad news coming up though for all those that feel they are addicted to the site.
The site is due for an upgrade. I have been holding off on doing the upgrade because it will take a little while. If everything goes right it should only take less then 1/2 a day.

There are two reasons I have been holding off.
Reason #1. I need to find one whole day where I can dedicate myself to the upgrade.
Reason #2. Doing an upgrade is always scary because things can go wrong.

I will try and give everyone advance notice when this is going to take place. It looks like it is a couple weeks away though.

Yeah Jeff, pretty sure. Will try to tag along more with Rock and the boys when he gets back to some things. I don't drive near or after dark anymore due to eyesight issues so that kinda limits my travels. However, I am planning on us all attending Trail Days next year as a family. :)

On second thought....

No there is no story here. Keep moving folks, nothing to see here :D

I DID IT!!!!

I went a whole day (Sunday) without once checking WB!! I am sooo proud of myself!!

Oh, I suppose I should tell the whole story... I left my laptop (my only computer) at work (which is only the office in my family's home, to which I have keys, but was too lazy to go get!!) So I went to "the office" at 0730. Im never here that early!!

Well, I will be going through withdrawal big time with White Blaze. Just found out tonight I need to go up next week to take care of my mom in NY who is having surgery. I don't know how long I'll be gone. And they have no e-mail. But hope to maybe do Slide Mtn. while I'm there as consolation.

I'm already a bit weepy. :(

IDEA! Suggest to your mom that she needs some reading material from the local library and offer to take her, or to just go for her... I think just about every library in the US is now equipped with INTERNET!!!!! I cant tell you how many times Ive stopped at the library, because I couldnt get a wifi signal in some of the small towns. (Yes, I was checking email, and of course WB...)

Enjoy your trip, send mom our best wishes and enjoy your hike!

Let's see, I first became addicted to WB back in 2003, I believe, just before my first AT section. The worst was in 2005 when I got off the trail after my attempted thru. This year I made it till October. I guess I'm still addicted, I just have more time between feeding the addiction.

Hope all goes well with mom. My brother had surgery just yesterday for a rather serious situation. I spent part of today hiking near Slide Mtn just to think about things. No snow or ice yet and conditions look the same for the next week. A little hiking is great therapy.

I broke my addiction. Got down to ONE time a day. Then you stopped hiking, I had no journal to transcribe, I had no journal to read...

I got all shakey, my head began to swim, and my heart started beating erratically!!

WB to the rescue. I'm up to checking new post about every 20 minutes, and it is all Mr. Stumpknocker's fault.

Would that be Big Slide via the Brothers or is there another Slide in the Adirondacks?

We might get some snow here in north Dixie tonight. Would make a great Christmas present to a displaced ADK gal.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Love ya Grampie. We will both be back out on the trail soon. Here is a song from one of my Christmas CD's by Tamoka Tedd (another hiker from 01)

"Back On the Trail Again"

There is a gypsy spirit in me
It’s itching to be free
The song of the wind in my hair
I’m dying to get back there
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again
Back on the trail
Watching an eagle lilting on an updraft
So many stars in the night sky, sure you know you’re on a spacecraft
Must be Mother Nature’s witchcraft calling me back
In this forest made out of Jade
Sparking waters of a cascade
Loon songs out on the pond
I just want to be a vagabond
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again
Back on the trail
You may meet an angel who will take you for a ride
Or want to leave you smiling out on the trailside
It just seems that when you’re needin’ providence provides
Wildflowers burst into flame,
The birds are calling my name,
Mt momma take me back to that life out on the track
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again
Back on the trail
There’s a red moon arising, and it’s wearing a smile
It just seems to leave you knowing you’re just a Mother Nature’s child
And you know that tomorrow you’re gonna walk the golden mile
There is a gypsy spirit in me
It’s itching to be free
The song of the wind in my hair
I’m dying to get back there
Back on the trail again, and I’m looking to meet new friends
I can’t wait for the day to begin till I’m back on the trail again

I hadn't made a New Year's resolution this year because I couldn't think of anything I wanted to change in my life....at least until I realized that I have just spent a couple hours on White Blaze this morning.

It sneaks up on ya!! I have some projects I planned on doing this morning and now it's afternoon and I'm still on WB.

I'm so ashamed!! :o

I'm going to try to beat this White Blaze addiction again. :datz

I see I have posted well over 200 posts just since 2004. I looked at my stats page and see that 228 posts adds up to an average of .13 posts per day. That's unacceptable. I believe .08 is the legal limit now, so I'm out of here. :)

I've been making myself scarce on Whiteblaze for the past few days. I was actually out hiking, if you can believe that, and when I got home I wrapped up the project of turning 1200 photos of the AT into a slideshow, with music. Messing with iDVD may be more addicting than Whiteblaze. Thank goodness my daughter just drove out the driveway, taking her MacBook (or whatever it is) with her, so I can get back to Whiteblaze.

Or maybe I should go out for a walk. I've just been viewing the pictorial evidence that I was a lot thinner two years ago on this date.

How Wolf spends his time is up to him, where permitted. Were his time divided between here and there, he would devote less time here. Those who appreciate his contributions, viewpoint and humor know where to find them.

Some no doubt consider his contributions here a drawing point which sets WhiteBlaze apart from Trailplace. If both sites are identical, one is redundant.

Hi, my name is prain4u and I am a Whiteblaze-aholic ("Hi, prain4u!")

Here are some random thoughts regarding WhiteBlaze addiction...........

DUI=Driving under the Influence. HUI=Hiking Upon the Internet.

Grant me Serenity to accept the hikers that I cannot change.
Courage to change the hikers that I can.
And Wisdom to know the difference.

Live life "one hike at a time"!

At the WB rehab center, do the "patients" prefer sleeping in tents, tarps or hammocks? (Can we take a poll?) At WB rehab, do they filter the water or drink it right out of a spring? What kind of gear is the best gear to bring to WB rehab--and will someone please help review my gear list before I go to WB rehab? Which is the superior way to do WB rehab--"thru-hike it" or "section hike it". How many bear attacks are there each year at WB rehab---and should I bring a gun or bear spray?

Which is better way to do a thru hike? Bud Light or Ultra Bud Light?

How light of a base pack must you have in order to considered a REAL Ultra (Bud) Light packer? 18 pack? 12 pack? 6 pack?

Is it better to start my WB rehab sometime in February--or should I wait until early March? What type of treatment is more effective--Northbound or Southbound? Should I bring my whole AT "Big Book" to rehab with me--or should send smaller sections of the book to myself via mail drops?

tents. you didn't mention shelters, but they make good kindling. drink water out of spring, aqua mira the stuff you aren't sure of the source. bring gear that works for you after you have vetted it on trial hike(s). section hiking is best - you can choose your seasons. no bear attacks, no guns, no spray on the at.

when on the trail, you will need a beverage with a higher buzz to weight ratio. drink beer in town or when another idiot packs it in.

Nobo in March if you must, but not on a weekend, holiday, the 1st, 15th. sobo is better. section is even better. blue-blazing is best.
