Optimus is coming out with a new stove that folds flat and fits into the bottom concave void area of a fuel cell canister and has a fabric pouch that slides over the bottom of the canister.

Anyone think that this is a good idea. The stove is a bit pricy, 3 times that of a pocket rocket, but the fact that it fits into a tighter space is awesome.

Couple that fuel canister with the old MSR TITAN cookware that has the frying pan lid and you have a mess kit and stove that is super compact and super light.

Any Opinions??

Any other specs, like total weight? As my Snow Peak GigaPower fits nicely into my cookpot along with a 110g canister, I'm not sure that I would save a whole lot of usable space.

Now, if I could fold up my spork, that would be worth something!

Sounds like the optimus crux that's been out for a couple of years.

Thanks, LM. I'm not in the market for one, but Kerosene may be. Now he's got a choice!

It is the Crux, but they have reworked it to take care of a few of the hinge issues that were causing it to not perform quite as well from a durability stand point as it should. They have also teamed up with Katadyn, so it is going to be easier to do business with them and they should be avaliable at more places that carry the water filters.

It's not 3 times the price of a pocket rocket either. A pocket rocket costs $40. This costs $64.

used Google.com found Pocket Rockets for $24.99. So it is about 2.3 times more expensive.

A little lighter than the PR, with a better flame pattern, and it's the only stove that survived the cliff toss by Backpacking Light and worked afterward. Nice ti stove at a good price.

See the link above.

It shows the new Crux vs the old one. So yes the stove is new. I did not know that the new stove had the same name as the old one, I thought that it was going to have a new name...

regardless...

Seams as if more people on this forum are interested in arguement, than discussion.

We may be interested in voicing our own opinions, which differ widely, but that doesn't necessarily qualify as an argument. If you disagree with someone else and state it, is it necessarily an argument - or is it only an argument when someone else disagrees with you?

Btw: Thanks for clarifying that there's a new Crux on the market. According to Backpacking Light, aside from the clever storage design, the old one wasn't anything to write home about in the performance category.
