we are hiking from front royal to harpers ferry ,we a asking how the trail is do we need heavy hiking boots or lite ones:-?

Depends entirely on your own personal preference.

This is, in fact, one of the tougher stretches of Virginia, but it doesn't mean you need big heavy lug-soled leather boots.

As long as your shoes are properly fitted, comfortable, and well broken in BEFORE your hike, it shouldn't much matter what you end up wearing.

(And this advice pretty much applies to the rest of the trail, too!)

We've done Front Royal to Ashby Gap - Nice section, pretty easy, the Denton shelter is cool with the "shower" - we still have the roller coaster yet to do though from Ashby on - we're doing it the last weekend of October and I hear that can be challenging but the shelters are supposed to be nice. :) Once we do that we will have completed Tye River all the way to Harpers Ferry in VA - close to half the state - Yeah! No Virginia blues come next year during our thru
