I found this weather site which I think is pretty cool....

www.intellicast.com

I like it because it gives sunrise and sunset and seems to be pretty much on the money.

There is also some old favorites

www.weather.com
www.accuweather.com

My favorite is http://met-www.cit.cornell.edu/weather/forecast.html

Covers northern and southern NE, NY, Penn. and NJ, WV, MD, DE. Basically just the NWS forecasts in text by county.

http://www.hobocentral.com/WorldData/AT/AppalachianTrail.asp?CityId=35&PostalCode=04464&City=Monson&State=Maine&StateCode=ME

Check out this long address at Hobo Central. Click on map for any location along trail. Temp, humidity, pollen count and lots more.

I hiked along a portion of the AT in the GSMNP this Jan. Before we left, I took a look at the Gatlinburg forcast on various sites. It was perfect. Even when I subtracted 10F from the highs and lows to account for the elevation changes.

We were hit with a snow storm the first night out (at Icewater spring). And it was 18F, windy and less than 50' vis due to blowing snow the next day as we hiked over to Pecks Corner. On the thrid day we hiked back to Smokemont Campground. There was no evidence of snow.

On our 1st night out, our sheltermates' weather radio had a NC/TN "Mountain" weather report. It foretold of the snow and cold weather ahead. Any ideas where I can find that report online? I've spent a few minutes scanning noaa's site but couldn't find it.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mrx/forecast.htm

Use the above link. Click on "Zone forecast Product"
Look for the smoky mtn reference in the forecast header.
What you heard on the NOAA weahter radio may also have been a short term forecast which can also be found on this site.

Let me know if you need more info. The National Weather Service sites have great info if you know where to look.

Thanks.

I found this header...

BLOUNT SMOKY MTN-COCKE SMOKY MTN-SEVIER SMOKY MTN-

...does that look correct?

Where is the local forecast? How did you find this one?

I was trying to find a forescast for Mt Rogers (just north of Damascus, VA) as well.

I think the best is www.weather.gov, also for the NY/NJ area 7online.com and for northwest Jersey www.sussexcountyweather.com

Yep, that's the right forecast product.

It doesn't appear that there is a specific forecast for mt. rogers.
You'll notice on the nws site that you can type in a city and state and get the forecast. In this case you could type in damascus, va
and get the forecast for the lower elevations.
