My dad turned me on to the mt. washington observatory web cam. It is amazing how crappy the weather is up there. There is also a cam down in the ravines that will show a perfectly sunny day, but with a huge cloud sitting on the top of washington.

This morning they got snow and ice at the summit. It's pretty cool to check in up there once every few days.

Worth a look:

Another cam choice shows where the AT heads north over the mountains. It's a very nice site, with lots of info about weather. Great link to check first thing in the morning - the undercast is amazing!
The Katahdin Cam is a poor cousin in comparision:

Wow! that's a really nice picture on there now with the sun going down and the clouds brushing the summit. Set it as my background.

Thanks T.J.

Me and Kerosene lucked out. We crossed over Washington on Sat with sunny skies, no wind, temps prob in the 60's. I was wishing I had a short sleeve shirt to wear.

I don't always check the summit webcam but I used to help keep it running when I worked up there.

I've got video of us going outside and "playing" in 120 mph winds. Oh, and a couple of those times the temp was -24 degrees F.

Watch it, love it, summer and winter. Think of The Old Fhart every time I look at it. He used to work there. Love it in late summer, early fall when all the northbounders are there. There will never be anything like it on Katahdin. Washington is a civalized summit and Katahdin will be a forever wild one. Both are wonderful places to be.

Both are wonderful places to be.I spent my honeymoon in late May 04 at the smaller hotel next to the Mt. Washington Hotel. I'm a weather nut so me and the wife drove up to the summit. We donated to the society cause I just had to get on the mailing list. The summit was not quite operational for summer, but the super nice lady at the museum(I think her name was Summer?) called Tim Markle up at the weather station and he came down and gave us a personal full tour. I'll never forget it. The summet was socked in that day but I didn't care. I hung out with my wife, Nin(the cat) and Tim in the Observatory. Awesome.:sun

The Mt. Washington webcams are great. The only problem is that the summit is in clouds most of the time. Half the time when I check the cams all I see is white. Hey Old Fhart, working at the observatory must have been amazing. How did you get that gig?

Whiteblaze & Mt Washington websites are my top 2 bookmarked sites while still here in Iraq. Those webcams deterred me from climbing when I should have gone, got me all revved up (doing 100 mph up 93...didn't even stop at the State Liquor store) till I rounded the corner in Gorham and weather reality would hit me, but, as the old saying goes if you don't like what you see...just wait a minute - you're in the Whites !!!! Even in college we would p/u the local Maine station's weather broadcast from the top. While it would be 22F in Plymouth NH we would hear their broadcast saying the wind chill was a present -15F and think "these guys have to be NUTS !!!!!!!! Gawd I miss the Whites.
