I'm looking for input on the Wilderness Society. I am impressed in the role they had in reinstating the Roadless Area Conservation http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-09-20-forest-rule_x.htm?POE=click-refer (http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-09-20-forest-rule_x.htm?POE=click-refer)expect more great things from them. Beingfairly new to knowing of their exsistance, I am looking for input on the experience others have had with them/ observations. Keep in mind that I do not agree with the Sierra Club most of the time; mostly because of their method of doling out money to local chapters. And they don't seem to have a realistic plan for making their agenda work with inevidable population growth.
I see the Wilderness Society as a worthwhile investment in the future of wilderness areas but I try not to go with " gut reaction" on these type things, so any experiences/opinions are welcome.

The Wilderness Society does useful work, especially in lobbying Congress. But they are a relatively tiny group. They have staff in Maine, but I don't sense they are major a major influence on state issues.

I devote my time and money to the Maine Appalachian Trail Land TRust, which is devoted to raising money to buy wilderness areas, as opposed to talking about them.
