Last year was Steve the Ferryman's 17th season running the canoe ferry across the Kennebec River in Caratunk. He's retired from the ferry service, but will still running Longley's Store and providing lodging and shuttles for AT hikers.
This year the ATC and MATC have contracted with a white water rafting outfitter, the New England Outdoor Center of Millinocket. (www.neoc.com)
The ferry schedule will be:
5/17 through 7-16 and 10/4 through 10/15 9AM to 11AM
7/17 through 10/3 twice daily 9AM to 11AM and 3PM to 5PM.
