Of the pack towels out there most seem to be made from one of two fabrics: a sponge type and a microfibre type.

I have the sponge type and wonder if the microfibre is better to dry with. Certainly softer but twice as expensive.

Anyone own both? Which do you prefer?

I prefer the microfiber. In particular the smooth( catches less debris ), yellow/gold-colored towels found in Wal-Mart automotive sections.

Very inexpensive as well.

i only use my silk bandana, which works very well as a towell. It is one of the best multi-use items one can carry. mine is a heavyweight one, bought from a distributor, in natural color which I died a pleasant olive color. Size is 34" X 34". It is a neck scarf, face scarf, hat, sun blocker, sweat stopper,etc.,...and a towel, too. It holds a remarkable amount of water, like a sponge, easily rung out, and it dries in about 15 minutes. A single use towel is far to heavy to tote!
