I used to have a strobe light as part of my Navy issued aircrew survival/rescue kit long ago before night vision gear was widely used. Definately an attention getter.
Now a camera isn't just for pictures, its a rescue beacon! Another multi-function item!

Very interesting. I'm glad she had the wisdom to pull a McGyver. Saved her tail. I'm sure this is not the first time a hiker has flashed while out on the trail. Folks mooning the Cog comes to mind.:banana

had an exercise in alaska in 02. we used to take those little mil spec strobes, put a little c4 in them, get a front loader and make a giant pile of snow, place 4' down and watch the fun. ahhh good times.
