:banana At the risk of jinxing things. I have made it official with my family. I am going to quit my job and start, (and hopefully finish) a thru-hike in March '07. I am scared, nervous, excited, amped, overwhelmed, free, relieved, apprehensive, and feeling groovy all at once. I'm gonna need to lean on y'all for the next few months and then some!

I hereby announce my 2007 NOBO Thru-hike.:banana

Yeah, I felt all those things too when I told my book editors and my family and friends what I'm doing. Then with some physical stuff I've had (back and knees bothering me), makes it seem all the more daunting. But this is my time. Now or never. Might as well go for it! One day at a time all the way to the big K.

I haven't decided on a particular start date as of yet. I will advise when I know. I'm so happy to get to know some of you on this site before we get to the trail. I feel the love already! We are all in this together. If I can help anyone out please let me know! I will most likely be heading to GA from N. FL. :dance

Welcome to the Class of 2007. Search these forums for answers to your hiking questions - and if you don't find what you are looking for - ask! Someone (or many someones) will chime in with their opinions.

I am also doing a NoBo March start and will be coming up from Central Fl.

Congratulations, One of the hardest parts of a thru hike is the preparation and logistics to set aside the time and resources to make the hike... You'll love it....

The PA Ruck is the MOTHER of all Rucks and was originally just called The Ruck.

Jim Owen "Spirit Eagle" was the founder of the PA Ruck.

Are there any other RUCKs in the Northeast between now and March?

No. Mara "Stitches" performs the PA Ruck tuckerization.

Tuckerization actually came from the term "tucker" or "tuck" from the individual that created this event: "Woodelf" or "Friar Tuck".....who was at the Gathering.

Here's a great picture from 2001 PA Ruck (http://gallery.backcountry.net/Ruck2001Chase/agi). Shown here from the left is Jim Owen, founder of the PA Ruck, Earl Shaffer and Woodelf.

I am not sure who will be performing the tuckerization event at the Southern Ruck.
