Just curious, how many Scouters on WB are also Woodbadger's? If so, what is your critter and course number? I'm an Owl, SR-643

Been a Scoutmaster for almost 18 years now, but every time they have Wood Badge, I have something going that I can't get out of, and if you miss one of the weekenders, you don't complete it.....

Its sort of advanced training for adult scout leaders. Lots of fun!

Hanna,

Yes, it is a BSA thing. It is referred to as the Phd of Scouting. It use to be a 6 day course in woodcraft, but it has since changed to a 6 day course in leadership skills. It is a huge amount of fun. You are put in to small groups called patrols and each group is assigned a critter name such as owl, bear, eagle, etc... Each member is very loyal to their patrol and usually develop lifetime friendships. During your 6 day course, you work on coming up w/ 5 ways to better yourself and / or Scouting. These are called your tickets. You have 18 months to complete your tickets. At which time you are awarded your Wood Badge beads. The beads are simple log looking wooden beads on a leather necklace. Wood Badge has a immense amount of history behind it, but this is a high level, general overview.

Hi, Hanna - if you really want to know:

http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/facts/pdfs/fs145001.pdf

The "B-P" referred to in the document is Lord Baden-Powell, a British war hero who founded the Scouting movement in Britain upon his retirement from the military.

prolly more info than you asked for, tho!
